Questions to ask while sorting
- Do you love it?
- Does it have meaning for you? (Was it given to you on your wedding day? Given to you by your favorite aunt? etc)
- Is it useful?
- Does it make you money?
- When did you last use it/wear it?
- Would you buy it again today?
- Would you buy it yourself? (if it is a gift)
- How do you feel when you look at it? (sometimes we buy things when we are sad, or people give us things out of guilt and then we feel those feelings around the object)
Sorting guidelines
Like with like! Bedroom things in the bedroom. Kitchen things in the kitchen and so forth. Continue to drill down from there. In the bedroom for example: clothing with clothing, books with books. Further drilling down would be in the closet: T-shirts with t-shirts, jeans with jeans…
